This was perhaps doomed from the start. I found this accommodation on Google Maps and fell in love with the idea of staying in the wilderness overlooking the Ligurian sea. This place is completely *inaccessible* to anyone who is not backpacking which is not clearly communicated on their website. The offer of using the monorail for heavier luggage is smoke and mirrors. When attempting to journey to the accommodation I sought assistance from the owner who was most unhelpful and pitiless to my distress (I was lost on the trail at the time). Don't bother trying to make this your grail...it's not going to happen. I ended up staying in Santa Margherita Ligure and day tripping to San Fruttuoso.
I stayed here as a 24 year old backpacking my way from Camogli to Portofino. The price was expensive for me then but looking back a very modest ask. I was late coming to check in.. very late. I had to call the host to tell him I'd be late because I had missjudged the walking distance to San Frutsuosso and got lost in the woods a few times. The host, a man whose name I have forgotten but whose kindness I will never, told me not to worry. He actually stayed up, waited for me to arrive and served me a three course dinner for one at 1100 pm.. He gave me so much food I actually couldn't finish it all! The location of this hotel is something I'll never to forget. You wake up and you can see the mountains on either side of the valley and the ocean. You can easily walk down the hill to town and to the beach. The water there is a crystal blue with big waves that pull you in quick. I think about this place whenever I need to escape in my brain to a time when I had been way too sure of myself and it worked out fine. Not because of my own ingenuity but because this place welcomed me in like a family. Please tip the hosts here they live locally and this is one of the few jobs around.
Nice spot to stop on the way to San Fruttuoso. One of the best hikes around that roundtrips with the Batterie trail which is however a bit dangerous.
On a roundtrip from Camogli to D. Fruttuoso, the ship not running due to waves, the bars at the bay below kind of uncertainly open, we had finally the chance to sit down and enjoy a piece of cake and a juice. Position and difficulty to bring food makes it not easy to carry goods, so it is not as cheap as one may think.
Amazing place. Food is delicious. People here are very nice. View is breathtaking. Highly recommended.
Marvellous idyllic setting, authentic simple cuisine, and a lovely host.
Fantastic quiet and calm place in a wonderful Hill on the sea
Very beautiful place with astonishing view!
